The eleven holidays are set in 5 U.S.C. 6103(a), under the names the law uses: Washington's Birthday is the one most people call Presidents Day. When a holiday lands on a Saturday, most federal employees get the Friday before; when it lands on a Sunday, they get the Monday after. That is why Juneteenth National Independence Day is Friday 18 June, Independence Day is Monday 5 July, Christmas Day is Friday 24 December and New Year's Day is Friday 31 December in 2027, and why the year has 12 days off instead of eleven: the New Year's Day holiday for 2028 is taken on Friday 31 December.
